Tips for Overcoming Seasonal Affective Disorder This Winter

How you can alleviate SAD symptoms.

During the winter months, the lack of sunlight can cause many people to develop seasonal affective disorder or SAD.  SAD is a form of depression triggered by a lack of sunlight.  Because the days are shorter and gloomier during the winter months, many people develop SAD, making them feel sluggish, withdrawn, and dejected.  Fortunately, there are things that you can do to alleviate SAD symptoms.  Here are some of the things that you should try if you are suffering from SAD this winter.

  • Let in the Light

One way to combat SAD symptoms is by getting as much sun as possible.  This January, make spending time outside a priority so you can take advantage of the sunshine.  If it’s too cold to go out, then open up your curtains and blinds so you can let light into your home or office.  When daylight starts to fade, make sure that you brighten up your home by turning on your lights.  You can also buy lightbulbs or lighting fixtures that mimic sunlight, so you can create the illusion of longer days.

  • Make Plans with Friends

If you suffer from SAD, then you know that being alone often makes you feel worse.  This is why you should make plans with loved ones, so you have something to look forward to.  Because SAD can make it difficult to motivate yourself to attend spontaneous hangouts, try making plans in advance.  This way, you are less likely to cancel and will have an easier time going out and socializing.

  • Seek Help

For many people, SAD is temporary.  However, if your depression is an ongoing struggle, then you should seek professional health.  By speaking to a therapist or other licensed medical professional, you can come up with a plan for tackling your depression this year.

These are some of the things that you should do to alleviate SAD symptoms.  Are you looking for assistance with your business insurance this winter?  If so, then contact the experts at PMC Insurance Group.  Our dedicated team is eager to get you the commercial coverage that you need today.
