As we celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the truck drivers who play such a vital role in our lives. Your work touches every part of our daily routines—from delivering the food we eat to the medical supplies we rely on. Simply put, our lives wouldn’t be the same without truck drivers.
Every day, truck drivers transport the essentials that keep our country running. With over 3.5 million truck drivers moving 72% of all freight, the impact you have on the U.S. is undeniable, pumping nearly $40 billion into the economy! Beyond that, more than 7 million people are employed in jobs that support the trucking industry, further driving growth in sectors across the economy, and job growth is expected to continue throughout the next decade.
It’s especially inspiring to know that 96% of U.S. trucking fleets operate 10 or fewer trucks. These smaller operations form the backbone of our supply chain, ensuring goods are moved efficiently across the nation.
The trucking industry generates over $732 billion in gross freight revenues, playing a critical role in maintaining economic stability, creating jobs, and keeping businesses of all sizes thriving. “Without truck drivers, the movement of goods between manufacturers, suppliers, and consumers would come to a standstill, causing widespread disruption”, says, Joe Bukovsky, Vice President of Transportation Workers Comp at PMC, a subsidiary of One80 Intermediaries. “Every day we work with our retail agency partners involved in the trucking industry, helping them secure insurance needed to keep business running. We are proud of this industry and are happy to be a part of it.”
As the demand for goods continues to rise, especially with the growth of e-commerce, truck drivers are under more pressure than ever. Challenges like labor shortages, tighter delivery windows, and regulatory hurdles only add to the strain. Yet, despite these challenges, truck drivers continue to meet the demands placed upon you.
