Heads Up #2

A South Dakota firm is being put under the microscope after they allegedly ignored OSHA regulations, an oversight that resulted in a building collapse and the death of an employee. Hultgren Construction was renovating the former Copper Lounge building on Dec. 2nd when it collapsed, killing a construction worker and trapping one of the residents for hours. Two citations specify that the company allegedly told employees to remove 2 load-bearing walls but neglected to provide instruction on how to install a temporary support system. The investigation found the company also failed to conduct an engineering survey before beginning demolition. As of May 3, the company will have 15 days to contest the citations.
