3 Suggestions for Protecting Your Business This October

Upgrade your business’s cyber security this National Cyber Security Month.

October is National Cyber Security Month and, as the name suggests, this month is dedicated to spreading awareness for all the risks that individuals and businesses face in this new, digital world.  Unfortunately, cyber attacks and data breaches are becoming more common than ever, and the losses that these digital threats cause are so serious that some businesses never recover.  If you want to protect your company, then here are three suggestions that you should try to upgrade your business’s cyber security this month.

1) Change Login Information and Passwords Regularly

One of the ways that your business can secure sensitive digital information is by frequently updating the login information that you and your staff use to access your company’s system and digital information archives.  Cybersecurity experts recommend changing login credentials on a weekly basis.  Additionally, they recommend changing passwords and making sure that they include a combination of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and special symbols.  This will make your passwords much harder for hackers to crack.

2) Update Computer Operating Systems

The programmers and managers of computer operating systems make sure to upgrade their security safeguards frequently to stay ahead of evolving threats.  To ensure that your business benefits from these changes, you should be sure to sign up for automatic updates from these developers.  Additionally, you should install the security patches that your operating systems sends out.  These patches are often designed to protect against specific risks that the developers have identified with their system.

3) Install Anti-Virus Software

Finally, all company devices should have good anti-virus software installed on them.  Even if your employees use their personal devices at work, your businesses should make sure that they have approved security software installed.  Having good anti-virus software will help protect your company against major digital risks such as viruses, malware, spyware, and phishing scams.  Just as with your computer operating system, be sure to update your anti-virus software as frequently as possible.
